"I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to share my experience of being a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with you. The value of earning the CIH designation has afforded me great opportunities; I would not have had without this outstanding professional credential. The time and effort it took to reach my professional goal of earning the right to call myself a CIH, has been well worth the time and effort spent preparing for the examination. The study process helped expand my knowledge of Industrial Hygiene, which made me a better health and safety professional. Since becoming a CIH I have received a promotion within my organization that most likely would not have been attainable without the Certified Industrial Hygienist designation. In my new role I have exciting tasks that help improve the health and safety of over 7,000 employees across the entire company. There are unique experiences in my new position that keep me engaged and help me continuously grow professionally.

As a young industrial hygiene professional I find myself many times working with health and safety practitioners with many more years of service than I. Having my CIH has been an outstanding tool to build acceptance for my message when working with health and safety practitioners that have extensive experience. For multiple years I had attended the American Industrial Hygiene Association Conference (AIHce).Seeing the industrial hygiene professionals I knew and respected having the CIH title on their badge make it clear I needed to do my part to show my commitment to the profession. After earning the CIH title I have spoken at AIHce. Having CIH after my name in the printed program and on my slides, helped me feel confident. I knew that those in attendance could see that I had done my part to earn the gold standard certification in the practice of industrial hygiene. Each time I speak in public this same feeling of reassurance comes to me when I’m introduced with the designation of CIH.

After seeing firsthand the positive professional and personal growth that has come to me by earning the Certified Industrial Hygienist title, I have mentored others interested in obtaining the CIH credentials. For me it feels like the correct thing to do to convince others in the industrial hygiene profession that the best time to earn the CIH designation is now. The benefits of being a CIH can’t be reaped if the seed of taking the necessary steps to earn the designation are not planted. Since earning the CIH credentials many doors have opened for me. The Certified Industrial Hygienist designation helped make this possible for me. Within the industrial hygiene profession the value of having the CIH title vastly exceeds any excuse that has been presented to me for not putting in the time and effort to become a Certified Industrial Hygienist."
